Torsoplasty (360° Circumferential Body Lift): Full-Torso Post-Bariatric Surgery

What is torsoplasty?

Torsoplasty, also known as circumferential lipectomy or 360° body lift, removes excess skin and tissue around the entire torso — abdomen, flanks, waist, and lower back — in a single continuous scar that wraps around the body. It's common in patients who have lost large amounts of weight, where excess skin isn't limited to just one area.

How is it different from abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty primarily addresses the front of the abdomen. Torsoplasty goes further, also correcting the sides and lower back for a more complete contour. Many patients who arrive thinking they only need “the abdomen” discover, during evaluation, that excess skin on the back and flanks also needs correction to achieve a harmonious result.

Surgical planning

Because it's a more extensive surgery, torsoplasty requires careful planning: nutritional status, surgical time, and in some cases, the decision to split the process into more than one procedure depending on each patient's condition. This is one of the reasons multidisciplinary support (nutrition, sports medicine, psychology) is a core part of the HENKO program, not an add-on service.

Planning your trip to Medellín

Because this is a more extensive procedure, international patients typically plan a longer stay in Medellín to allow for adequate initial recovery before flying home. The HENKO team helps plan realistic timelines around your travel dates as part of the pre-surgical evaluation.

Recovery

Being a more extensive procedure, initial recovery requires more care: assisted mobility during the first few days, a circumferential compression garment, and close monitoring of healing across the entire treated area. Return to daily activities and exercise happens gradually, always under medical guidance.
